Will we hear a new word for our time if we listen to the Bible in the voices of marginalized people?
That’s the driving question behind this project. For two centuries, a certain set of voices and perspectives has been centered in institutional Christianity. Only certain voices were seen as authorities on the word of God: men, white people, straight and cisgender people. But if all people are made in the image of God, then all people have something unique to show us about who God is. Through this project, we can hear the life-giving words of scripture; through the voices of women, queer and transgender people, immigrants, and people of color, we can hear the voice of God, speaking to us in our time.
Enfleshed Word was created by Rev. Lindsay Popperson, a queer woman minister in the United Church of Christ. This project was made possible by an Innovation Grant, through her participation in Foundations of Christian Leadership through Leadership Education at Duke Divinity.
